Alkaline 4LR44 Batteries for Just One Use

Batteries are one of the ways to power up our devices. Electrical equipment that is used when you are on the go relies on the accumulated power of batteries to keep things running. Single-use batteries have an initial charge that is used up over a specific time length depending on the type of product.

What is an alkaline battery?

An alkaline battery is a primary (single-use) battery type that gets its energy from the reaction between zinc and manganese dioxide. It has a potassium hydroxide electrolyte which is alkaline in nature. They have a cylindrical form and are made of stainless steel.

What are the specifics of a 4LR44 model?

These types of batteries have certain properties. They are one of the larger battery types:

  • 6V Voltage
  • Size of 1.2cm x 2.3cm
  • Weight of around 10 grams
What is the construction of alkaline batteries?

The body of the battery is made up of a hollow steel shell. It holds all the materials needed to operate the battery and plays the cathode function. A positive terminal is found on the top of the cylinder. Manganese dioxide powder is mixed with coal dust on the inner peripheral surface. This is the cathode mixture. A paper separator is placed between the inner surface and this mixture. The central part of the battery has zinc powder and a potassium hydroxide electrolyte. A metal pin is inserted on the central axis of the cylinder and collects the negative charge. The plastic cover on the metallic end on the bottom separates the positive drum and the negative sealed cap.

How do you properly care for your battery?

Although batteries are seldom considered separate from their devices, they too have some maintenance specifics:

  • Read instructions - Use the battery only for its designated device.
  • Insert properly - Place the positive and negative ends of the cylinder on their appropriate side. The case which holds them should have a "-" and a "+" marking to show how they are positioned according to the corresponding markings on the battery.
  • Clean surface - Use a dry cloth to clean the outer surface of the battery.
  • Remove old battery - If the battery is exhausted, remove it from the device that holds it.
  • Remove them together - If you have more than one battery in the case, place them in together, and remove them together when they no longer power the device. Do not replace a single battery in a device with more than one battery.
  • Preserve energy - To prolong the life of your batteries, switch off your device, and remove the batteries when not being used.
  • Proper storage - Store the batteries in a cool and dry place with normal temperature. Do not store with other metal objects as it could lead to leakage.
  • Do not damage battery - This includes hitting, dissasembling, or puncturing it. Use a designated recycling facility for batteries when you no longer use them.
