Ford F-350 Super Duty Headlights

Shine a clear path for your truck to follow with headlights for the Ford F-350 Super Duty, and choose from a variety of dealer trims like the Lariat and XLT. When it comes to replacement headlight bulbs and assemblies, there are a wide variety of options available. Knowing the basics about these vehicle parts will help you find the headlights that perfectly complement the raw intensity of your Ford pickup.

What types of headlights are available for the Super Duty?

The two main contenders for the title of ultimate Ford F-350 headlight technology are high-intensity discharge (HID) bulbs and light-emitting diodes (LEDs).

  • HID bulbs make use of a noble gas enclosed in a glass housing to create a brilliant electrical arc between two tungsten electrodes. These types of bulbs are considered the gold standard when it comes to truck headlights and last between 1,000 and 2,000 hours.
  • LED lighting harnesses advanced technology to illuminate your way in your Ford F-350 Super Duty. These tiny diodes that use hardly any electricity are a staple of the contemporary vehicle lighting marketplace and are rated to last an incredible 50,000 hours. Another advantage of light-emitting diodes is that they do not get hot even after hours of use.
How do you install LED bulbs in a headlight assembly?

Many F-350 owners choose to upgrade to LED replacements for their original headlights. While the installation of certain forms of LED headlights requires the replacement of the entire headlight assembly in your Super Duty truck, often it’s possible to simply install an LED headlight bulb that fits perfectly into the cavity vacated by the old HID bulb. Follow these simple instructions to install LED bulbs in both headlights in your Super Duty truck.

  • Turn off the engine. Remove the four, 10-millimeter bolts from the top of the grille to remove it from the vehicle.
  • Pick a side to start with and remove the additional four 10mm bolts from the top of the headlight assembly. Remove the bolt on the side and on the bottom of the assembly.
  • Pull the assembly away from the truck. Pull the rubber dust cover off the assembly and remove the bulb socket by turning it counterclockwise.
  • Disconnect the old bulb socket from the electrical harness and insert the gasket that came with your LED bulb into the cavity. Replace the rubber dust cover.
  • Install the LED bulb by pushing it firmly through the small hole in the center of the dust cover. Connect the LED bulb to the electrical harness and install the headlight bolts. Repeat these steps for the opposite headlight and replace the grille to complete installation.
What are the benefits of smoked headlights on your F-350?

While enjoying the benefits of smoked headlights usually requires replacing the entire headlight assembly, many Ford F-350 Super Duty owners choose to take this advanced step in order to partake in the stealthy look imparted by these headlight variations. Smoked headlights make use of a lightly tinted film to darken their appearance when lit. Even so, these headlights produce the same amount of illumination as their conventional cousins.
