Shocks & Struts para Porsche Boxster

Shocks and Struts for Porsche Boxster

The Porsche Boxster is a two-seater sports car featuring a mid-engine that was first unveiled in 1996. This luxury car is as fun to drive as it is to look at. Replacing parts in the suspension system like the shocks and struts is one of the most common projects for owners to perform on their Porsche Boxster.

How often should you change the Porsche’s shocks and struts?

Ideally, you should replace the struts and shocks on your vehicle every 50,000 miles or at any time that they begin to show signs of wearing out or fading. To test the durability, push down on one corner of your car. It should spring back up with little to no oscillation. If your Boxster bounces up and down, it’s most likely time to change these items out for new ones.

How do you replace the shocks and struts?
  1. Once your car is elevated safely with the wheels removed, start with one strut and remove the brake caliper. Unplug and disconnect any brake sensors and the sway bar drop link. Mark the location of the three nuts holding the shock to the tower, remove them, then loosen the bolt attaching the wishbone to the chassis.
  2. Push down on the wishbone maneuvering the shock down over the top of your fender. Take care not to scratch the paint during this step.
  3. Install the compressor onto the spring/coil located on your now removed strut assembly. Compress it until it’s no longer tight. Place the two halves on exact opposite sides. Safety goggles should be worn in this step just in case the spring pops off suddenly.
  4. Remove the compression from the strut assembly and loosen the center nut located at the top of the shock.
  5. With the upper strut mount off, you can easily lift the old coil off the bottom perch. Compress the coils.
  6. Next, install your compressed spring back onto the lower spring/coil perch. Reinstall the dust boot or rubber bumper back over your shock so that it’s protected from grime and debris while driving. Reinstall the upper plate and the pad. Position the upper strut mount located on top of the plate, tightening the last nut carefully.
  7. Place your shock assembly into the wheel carrier attaching the sway bar drop link. Reinstall the assembly into the top of your shock tower. The uppermost strut mount might require several rotations in order for the integrated studs to line up with the holes in the chassis. Replace the three nuts at the top taking care to ensure they are aligned with the marks you made in step one. Replace the brake caliper along with any other components that you previously disconnected. Plug the sensors back in routing the wires and hoses carefully through the strut’s tabs.

Youll be back in your ride with upgraded suspension parts and smooth handling in no time.
