Suzuki SX4 Wheel Lugs

The Suzuki SX4 is available as a sedan or hatchback model with an all-wheel-drive option. No matter which version of the vehicle you drive, you want to keep it looking sharp. If you have lost a lug nut or want to get a whole new set, you will have no trouble finding replacements.

Suzuki manufactured SX4 models that use either lug nuts or lug bolts to fasten the rims to the vehiclea wheels. All the cars made for the U.S. market have lug nuts. The lug nuts fasten on to studs that extend from the hub of the axle. They tighten down against the rim to keep it securely on the car.

Every SX4 has a bolt pattern of 5 x 114.3. The first number tells you that the vehicle has five lug nuts and studs for each rim. The second figure shows you that the mounted lugs form a circle that is 114.3-millimeters in diameter on the rims.

The lug nuts and studs must have the same thread size and thread pitch, or they will not be compatible. The diameter of the stud measured from the outside edges of the thread is the thread size. The distance between the threads along the length of the bolt is the thread pitch.

For all models of the Suzuki SX4 vehicle, these measurements are 12 x 1.5. Meaning the studs are 12-millimeters in diameter with threads that are 1.5-millimeters apart.

• Seat type: The factory lug nuts on the Suzuki SX4 have a conical seat, which means the end of the nut that fits against the rim has a 60-degree taper. The shape of the seat must match the contour of the rim, or it cannot be tightened securely. If you put new rims on your SX4, the factory lugs may not be the right type. Check the specifications of the rim to confirm the seat type you need for the nuts.
• Length and diameter: The length and diameter of the lugs may come into play if you are switching out the rims. The rims you choose may need shorter nuts to conceal under the hubcap. On the other hand, some rim styles need nuts that are longer, so you can access them with a wrench. If your new rims have narrow passages for the lugs to fit through, you may need a style called spline drive. This style is a thinner nut that requires a slim socket to tighten or remove it.
• Locking or standard: You can remove the standard factory lugs of a Suzuki SX4 with any wrench that is the correct size. Locking nuts can only be removed with a specific key. If you want to protect your rims against theft, you can put a locking nut on each one. Locking lug nuts are usually available as sets of four in either chrome or black to match your rims.
